Disregard the B.S. and B(e) S(trong)!

"Some people think that to be strong is to never feel pain. In reality, the strongest people are the ones that we feel it, understand it, accept it, and learn from it" --Unknown Keep your head up Keep your heart strong   Today was a very difficult day for me. Yesterday was wonderful, today was extremely trying and discouraing. Every and anything that could go wrong, went wrong. Patients were no where to be found, and my phone would not stop ringing. I felt overwhelmed; I wanted to slide into my bed and cry.   I needed...       There was nothing I could do but call my supervisor and one of my mentors. She said to me, "This is not worth you getting yourself worked up." She was so calm and so unaffected by what I was so clearly upset about! She calmed me. Her perspective was inspiring, nothing ever seems to bother her.    I realized, I needed to practice what I always preach. My perspective  needed a ser...

Love Yourself (Focus on Health)

Image
"A healthy self-love means we have no compulsion to justify to ourselves or others why we take vacations, why we sleep late, why we buy new shoes, why we spoil ourselves from time to time. We feel comfortable doing things which add quality and beauty to life." --Andrew Matthews          Today I had a big decision to make.  It was one that forced me to choose between personal satisfaction and professional growth.  I lay in my bed at 5 am contemplating whether I'd follow my professional pursuit today or was going to choose my happiness and health, more sleep.   The person I was a year ago would have gotten up without hesitation and marched to my meeting, my professional pursuit would of won without a doubt. I would have disregarded my tachycardia, and  neglect my body's cry for the extra sleep. Health was not a priority of mine. Despite being a nurse and knowing better, money, success and pursuing my d...

"Be strong enough to stand up for what you believe in Bold enough to not care about what others may think Being unique means being different It also means knowing others cannot accept you or your beliefs Everyone will not support or accept your vision Believe in yourself You are worth it!" --PrettyChiq      We give power to those when we forget who we are. Everyone is different, and while we may have respect for ourselves, we have a few people who we allow to get away with many things.   Everyone have one or two persons who the place on a high pedestal. For whatever reasons, we respect and honor the respect of those persons very much. Oftentimes, we forget ourselves, curb our standards and give those people much more room to disappoint us than we should.   Who are these people?   They are Friends Family Significant others Mentors Celebrities Anyone we admire We tend to forget one thing however, they are h...

Who's to Blame (Relationship Advice)

Image
"Relationships are what we make them, not what they are. If it is successful, it's because we have successfully worked at them. Relationships don't fail, the people in them do." --PrettyChiq       ( Caution: T his is not a solution to every problem, but it is honest advice)   Most women I know complain constantly about not having a man.   When they have a man, they complain about what he does and what he does not do.   I have a simple blog to change this cycle and give a solution to all the nonsense. The problem with the man, whether he is your man, someone else man you want because you've borrowed him, a fantasy man/crush, boo-thang, whatever category he may fall in your life, is not him, it is YOU!   The answer to most problems in any relationship starts with the person who has the conflict. If you didn't view it as a problem, then there is none. Clearly, however, if it is causing you some form of conflict, whether it may be et...

Wearing Your Scar

"Find something to believe in. And find yourself. And when you do, pass it on in the future." --Unkown I was talking to one of my best friends and big sister and she encouraged me to write about this. We were talking about our flaws and how far we have come into ourselves. We discussed the importance of using your downfalls, weaknesses and misfortunes, and turning them into positives or to get positive results! This discussion reminded me of something one of my patients taught me. Let me explain.... My patient was one of the strongest women I knew. Standing at a stunning 4'5, 89lbs, she was recovering from breast cancer, a survivor. I was at the end of one of my visits and my patient said something I'll never forget. She said, "I wear my scars like they are the best accessories I have." I was stunned. She moved her very-well padded bossoms and said, "I get so much attention from the men now. Best thing ever happened to m...

Living with a Purpose

"If you are learning what your life. It is to create one."    --Unknown "Beautiful people realize beauty is subjective, but they know their beauty is profound and unique. They are custom-made and one-in-a-billion. Their confidence does not reside in what other's say, but in their own views of themselves."                                  --PrettyChiq DAILY ADVICE I have too many friends who are constantly wondering why they hate their jobs and why they are not where they want to be. Many always ask me, "How come you're always happy and always have money?" My response is usually very simple. "I changed the way I look at shit." Huh? What? Gasps....Yes...change the way things look, and they're meaning and purpose also changes. Steps to Accomplishing Goals are simple... Wake your ass up every day with...
